Fast Play: Louisiana Lottery Launches A New Way To Game

Posted on July 2, 2021

The Louisiana Lottery hopes to add a consecutive banner year with the introduction of its new instant Fast Play. The first five Fast Play games debuted in June 2021 with a top payout of $50,000.

Quick, Easy, and Fast Play

Fast Play lives up to its name by allowing players to win prizes immediately without having to pick numbers, complete play slips, scratch tickets, or wait until results are drawn.

The charm of Fast Play lies in its simplicity:

  • Player requests a ticket by the game’s name or chooses a game on the mobile app and shows the corresponding code to the attending store clerk.
  • A ticket then prints out immediately from the Lottery’s terminal system.
  • The player sees immediately if they’ve won — either on the ticket itself or via the mobile app.

Lottery president Rose Hudson has described Fast Play as “an entirely new type of lottery game” that gives players “more choices and chances to win instantly, right at the point of sale.”

Lottery, State Treasury, and Public Education Win with Big Year

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, in the 2020 fiscal year the Louisiana Lottery Corporation saw $511.8 million in revenue, just about $5.1 million short of 2019’s record total, with transfers to public education through the state treasury totaling more than $179.1 million.

While Powerball and Mega Millions games faltered substantially, scratch-offs saved the day (the year, actually) with their best quarter ever, bringing in $90.8 million just during the 4th quarter.

Hudson has credited the success in spite of the pandemic-influenced odds to the lottery’s retailers, employees, and “our unwavering shared commitment to the Lottery’s mission to raise funds for public education” and called Fast Play “a welcomed expansion to “the Lottery’s game portfolio.”

The First 5 “Fast Play” Games Join the Lottery Lineup

These five Fast Play Games with the following top prizes debuted in June:

  • $1 Money, Money, Money – $500
  • $2 Fire & Dice – $2,000
  • $3 Bingo – $3,0000
  • $5 Fabulous Five – $25,000
  • $10 $50,000 Roulette – $50,000

The Lottery plans to debut new Fast Play games at participating retailers about every two months.

Just as with the Lottery’s other instant-win games, winners must claim Fast Play prizes within 90 days of the game’s announced closure. Fast Play prizes up to $600 are claimable at any participating retailer. The Lottery’s website will post game closure and prize redemption deadlines. Players may visit www.louisianalottery/claim to learn about other options for prize payments.
